questions about counselling therapy

Are you a qualified therapist/counsellor?

Yes, I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). Membership with the BACP is only granted after qualification, and they have reviewed and approved your credentials.

What is your availability?

I currently have slots available. If that changes, I will update my website. My working hours are as follows:

  • Tuesday: Afternoon & Evening

  • Wednesday: Morning

  • Thursday: All day

Do I have to work solely online or solely face-to-face with you?

No, I can offer a flexible, blended approach to meet your needs. However, it's important to ensure that the space you choose for counselling, whether online or in person, is private and free from distractions or interruptions. Please refer to the page on Face-to-Face vs. Online Counselling for more details on what might work best for you.

Do I have to commit to a minimum number of sessions?

No, there’s no minimum commitment. However, it’s important to note that talking therapy is generally not a quick fix, and there’s no "magic number" of sessions. The length of therapy depends on your individual needs and goals. We can discuss this further during our initial phone call.

Do I have to pay for the initial 15 minute phone call?

No, the initial phone call is free. It’s an opportunity for both of us to get to know each other and decide if we’re a good fit to work together.

What happens if I want to start counselling with you?

First, get in touch via phone or email. We’ll arrange a free 15 minute introductory call. If we both feel comfortable moving forward after the call, I’ll send you an assessment form. This form gives me some information about you, your history, and what you hope to achieve in counselling. If at any point you decide not to proceed, that’s perfectly fine, and I won’t be offended. The final step will be to schedule our first session together once you’re ready.

When do I have to pay for my sessions?

Payment for sessions is due by 10pm on the day of the session. Payments can be made via BACS (bank transfer) or by card through Stripe. I’ll provide all payment details before we begin working together on a contract.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

If you need to cancel, please give me at least 48 hours' notice via email or text. If you provide the required notice, there will be no charge. However, if I do not receive 48 hours' notice, the full session fee will be due.

Do you work with couples, families or children under the age of 18?

Unfortunately, I do not offer this kind of counselling.

Do you offer flexibility for shift workers or those who cannot commit to the same day and time every week?

If possible, I will always try to meet your needs. However, in some cases, it may not be feasible. Please do ask and we can talk about your existing commitments in our initial conversation.

How do I get in touch?

You can email me at contact@skylacounselling.co.uk or you can call, text or Whatsapp me at 07356 033633. I will respond as soon as possible, usually within 2 working days. If I am on holiday, my voicemail and email will provide my return date, and I’ll respond as soon as I am back.
